LAHORE: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) decision on Wednesday to give PTI leader Imran Khan another week to file his response in the contempt of court case brought against him for criticizing a Sessions judge n was not well received by the PML-N, whose leadership accused the judiciary of having a “double standard”.
In a post on Twitter, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz said that “the relaxation and facilities provided to Imran Khan” had once again exposed “the injustices and excesses” against the party and its supremo Nawaz Sharif, disqualified in 2017 by the Supreme Court. Court to hold public office for life.
“The scales [of justice] couldn’t be balanced,” she said.
The allegations against the PTI president stem from a speech he gave criticizing Judge Zeba Chaudhry for taking his chief of staff, Shahbaz Gill, into custody in a sedition case.
“In fact, the contempt sentence should be given to Judge Zeba sahiba, who insulted Imran Khan’s honor by defending justice,” Maryam Nawaz said in another tweet, which she retweeted using the hashtag “double standards of justice rejected”.
Another PML-N leader, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, also criticized the judiciary, lamenting that the courts were not lenient in the cases of PML-N leaders Daniyal Aziz, Talal Chaudhry and Nehal Hashmi.
“Previous court rulings mock justice,” she tweeted. “If today’s decision [of the IHC] right, those [previous] decisions should also be corrected, and if they were correct, justice should also be seen in that decision.
Referring to Nawaz Sharif, she said a three-time prime minister had been disqualified for life for failing to collect a salary from his son, removed as party leader and sent to jail with his daughter.
“If popularity is the measure of justice, where was that measure in the case of [former] Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif? she wondered.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal also retweeted a message from Senior Reporter and former Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board Najam Sethi stating: His base? Is the IHC telling Imran to issue “some kind of” apology in writing so they can bail him out? »
